Although Winner's Edge will go on hiatus until next August, you can still check some of us out at the forum at www.everyedge.com. Greg and Pat stop by occasionally and I'm in there every day. Winner's Edge also provides free daily picks there. You can also continue to get Winner's Edge each week with their online issue (the Electronic Edition - call the office at 1-800-400-9648 and they can hook you up). So if you have a computer, log in. If you're thinking about buying one - stop fence sitting. Buy a basic system that can get you Internet access. If you use the info in the forums you can recover your investment in no time. And if you persist on staying in the Dark Ages - see ya next year?

In this final issue I want to leave you something for the months ahead. I'll give you three future picks and one theoretical situation to keep in mind and to watch for throughout your wagering career.
For the theory, I suggest you watch for teams that go on unusually long winning streaks, and or team record setting streaks. The example I will use came up this week. The St. Louis Blues tied the club record for wins with nine straight. Their next game they went for the record and hit for win number 10. They lost their next game. Now, think about the locker room emotions after the loss that ended the streak. Some players look back at what they just accomplished and celebrate. Some players feel the relief of the stress that comes with the streak. They can relax now. Mostly all of the players are feeling something different in the range of emotions and are not totally focused on the next contest. The let-up factor comes into play. After the streak is broken, a flat effort is likely.
After the Blues finally lost they found themselves at home, facing Detroit. Not only do with have the "after the loss that ends a streak" going for us when we bet AGAINST the Blues, but we'll be using a play ON Detroit, which may be the best team in the NHL. The Blues did come up flat, and the Red Wings won. Nuggets like this don't come often, but they're there if you wait and watch for them. This is not as applicable in baseball because it is a pitcher-oriented game, but I've successfully used this before in the NBA, AGAINST the Lakers after they lost a game to end a winning streak. Watch for this spot in the NHL and NBA. For the actual plays I'll give you three selections in my specialty, boxing. There are three big fights coming up - one in March, one in April, and one in May. I've already given you a heads up on two of them. Use Barrera over Morales in March, and use Delahoya over Vargas in May. In both fights you have "spent fighters" who are going to lose. Now we have Tyson vs. Lewis on April 6th. I'm sure you have all seen the melee at the press conference last week. Fights (real or staged) at press conferences are nothing new. I was not surprised at the antics, but it was the words that I heard that had me shaking my head in amazement. I will give you an excerpt from my home page column this week (another reason to check out www.everyedge.com) in which I quoted some of the participants:
From Mike Tyson , to a reporter at what turned out to be ringside: "You couldn't last one day in my world". Exactly what world is that Mike? A world blessed with a God-given talent that millions of others can only dream of? A world that has seen millions of dollars come into your hands? A world of multiple mansions? A world of cars, stars and other toys? A world surrounded by yes men and beautiful women? Stop please, you're breaking my heart. Memo to Mike - don't make it sound like you're still from Brooklyn and the Mean Streets. You've had plenty of time and opportunity on Easy Street. You are the one who chooses to act like you belong on Sesame Street. I don't expect this fight to happen, I think Tyson blows the match somehow and it never comes off. But it is scheduled for April and if they do meet take Lewis to win. Watch the forum for my analysis the week of the fight. Review/Selections - I sometimes think that if I ever had a terrible season, in which I gave more losers than winners, that Winner's Edge would still allot me space for my column, just for my writing ability and sense of humor(?). A couple more weeks like last week and I may find out. After a solid start in the playoffs I pulled an o'fer, going 0-3. Season unit count stands at a nothing-to-write-home-about +1.1
