NFL INJURY REPORT

Check back each Friday during the NFL football regular season for our detailed report on the injuries around the NFL provided by Jeff Scott.

The Steelers were already battling the injury bug before their knockdown fight with Baltimore on Monday. Already missing RB Willie Parker, Pittsburgh lost rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall for the year with a fractured shoulder. The No.3 RB, Carey Davis, is suffering with an ankle injury. The team signed RB Najeh Davenport, who was with the team for the past few seasons and is well versed in the system. The ground game didn't hold up their end of the bargain on Monday and things will continue to be tough against Jacksonville this week. The team also lost RG Kendall Simmons for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon. OL Darnell Stapleton is listed as the team's backup at all three interior positions but look for RT Max Starks to get the call. He's making over $6 million this season and the team would prefer him to earn that money on the field.

Green Bay isn't going over the cliff with their QB situation but they are certainly teetering on the precipice. Aaron Rodgers hasn't practiced this week as he rests his strained right shoulder. The only thing the team knew about Rodgers before the season started was that he had been prone to injury. Knowing that, they opted to keep two rookies as backups. 7th-rounder Matt Flynn actually beat out 2nd-rounder Brian Brohm but looked overmatched in limited duty last week against Tampa Bay. Keep an eye on this situation as the Packers season could go up in smoke if Rodgers misses significant time. Green Bay also lost starting RE Cullen Jenkins for the year with a torn pectoral muscle. The once-deep D-line rotation has been whittled away with trades, injuries and off-field discretions. DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila has shown he isn't an every-down player but he'll probably get most of the snaps at RE.

Arizona has stumbled since their 2-0 start and are now contending with two of their best players injured. SS Adrian Wilson missed last week's game with a hamstring injury and is questionable this week. His absence was certainly felt in last week's 56-35 loss to the Jets. He wants to play this week but hasn't practiced yet and won't play unless he gets some time on the practice field. WR Anquan Boldin was leveled with a hit that got Jets S Eric Smith suspended. It's not clear if he sustained a fractured sinus membrane but he hasn't practiced yet and will probably be held out as a precaution. WRs Steve Breaston and Jerheme Urban will play more this week but losing Boldin is huge for the offense. Look for Buffalo to shade their coverage toward WR Larry Fitzgerald.

Seattle hopes to get WR Bobby Engram (shoulder) back this week and no one will be happier than QB Matt Hasselbeck. He has been missing his top six wideouts this season but getting Engram back will help. WR Deion Branch (knee) is also a possibility to return but he may need another week or two. The Seahawks are 1-2 but with the 49ers and Cardinals stumbling, they are still in the NFC West race.

Washington is coming off a big win in Dallas but may have to face Philadelphia without starting CB Shawn Springs. He missed practice on Thursday with a calf injury and while he maintains he'll play, HC Jim Zorn hasn't been as optimistic. The 'Skins have good options available as both CBs Fred Smoot and Carlos Rogers have starting experience. The Eagles spread the ball around and don't feature an elite receiver, so Washington's secondary shouldn't be exposed. RT Stephon Heyer is still suffering with a strained shoulder and missed last week but RT Jon Jansen is a more than capable, having started for the past several seasons.
