It’s getting to that point in the season where every game is a war. In Week 7, 11 of the 13 games were decided by a touchdown or less. As we rapidly approach the halfway point of the season, games are only going to get tougher. Here’s a look at some of the top betting picks in Week 8.
San Diego -2.5 at Cleveland at 5Dimes
The public loves to overreact when a team has a great or terrible performance, especially when that performance comes in prime time when everyone’s watching. One of those terrible performances came in Week 6 when the San Diego Chargers coughed up a 24-0 lead on Monday Night Football behind four Philip Rivers interceptions.
As a result, bettors and bookmakers are clearly ready to throw in the towel on San Diego as the Chargers are just 2.5-point favorites against Cleveland this week. But let’s keep in mind that Peyton Manning on Monday Night Football is a different beast entirely than the Cleveland Browns, who are 1-12 SU in their last 13 games.
San Diego has had a bye week to prepare for this game and has proven it can beat bad teams with a 3-0 SU and ATS record in three games against the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers should be able to win and cover this modest spread.
Oakland Raiders +1.0 vs. Kansas City Chiefs at Pinnacle
No one is going to mistake either of these teams for a playoff contender. But since their bye week, the Raiders have looked substantially better on defense, allowing just 23 points per game over their last two games after allowing 31.25 points per game over their first four. That includes a strong defensive showing against the potent Atlanta Falcons attack.
The Kansas City Chiefs have made the switch to Brady Quinn at starting quarterback, and he will be starting just his second game in three years. In his one start this season against the worst passing defense in the league (Tampa Bay), Quinn passed for just 180 yards and threw two interceptions with no touchdowns.
Oakland is a perfect 5-0 SU and ATS in its last five trips to Arrowhead Stadium. The Raiders should be able to improve to 6-0 SU and ATS with another win over the Chiefs this week.
Other lines available this week (all at BET365) include Tampa Bay +6.5 at Minnesota, Indianapolis +3.5 at Tennessee, Carolina +7.5 at Chicago, Miami +2.5 at the NY Jets, Seattle +3 at Detroit, New England -6.5 at St. Louis, Atlanta +2.5 at Philadelphia, Washington +5 at Pittsburgh, New York -1 at Dallas, New Orleans +6 at Denver, and San Francisco -6.5 at Arizona.
