NFL Football Week 7 Betting Setup

Injury news dominated the headlines in Week 6 as the Baltimore Ravens lost two star defensive players for the season in CB Lardarius Webb and future hall-of-fame linebacker Ray Lewis. The Ravens this week face the Houston Texans, who are coming off their first loss of the season, leaving the Atlanta Falcons as the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team. Here’s a look at some of the top picks in Week 7.

New Orleans -2.5 at Tampa Bay at 5Dimes

Even with their win last week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are just 2-13 SU and 5-10 ATS over their last 15 games. This spread seems to be giving Tampa Bay a bit too much credit for a blowout win over a weak team and also perhaps not taking New Orleans’ current form into account.

It’s true that the Saints are just 1-4 SU this season, but they entered the bye week with some positive momentum after losing by just one point to Green Bay on the road and then beating San Diego 31-24 at home two weeks ago. The Saints appear to be trending in the right direction, and they’ve had the bye week to help shore things up on defense and to prepare for Tampa Bay.

There is also a strong possibility that Jonathan Vilma will play Sunday, which would be a huge boost to the Saints’ team defense. But even without Vilma, Drew Brees and the offense should be able to do enough to win and cover this modest spread.

New England -10.5 vs. New York Jets at Pinnacle

In a bizarre turn of events, the AFC East enters Week 7 locked in a four-way tie at 3-3 as Buffalo, New York, and Miami all won while New England lost to Seattle last week. This isn’t likely to bode well for the Jets this week as New England will come into this game extremely aggravated.

Without Darrelle Revis, the Jets don’t have the personnel on defense to slow down New England’s powerhouse offense. Without Santonio Holmes on offense and with a struggling Mark Sanchez under center, the Jets don’t have the offense to keep up with the Patriots, either. New England’s excellent rush defense should be able to contain Shonn Greene, forcing Sanchez to beat the Patriots through the air; something he hasn’t shown the ability to do.

New England is 15-5 SU in its last 20 games against the Jets. Look for that winning trend to continue with a blowout win this Sunday.
