With wins last week, the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, and Denver Broncos locked up their respective divisions. The Houston Texans also locked up a playoff spot by improving to 11-1. Plenty of divisions, playoff spots, and first-round byes are still up for grabs though, and our two top picks of Week 14 still have plenty for which to play.
Denver -10.0 at Oakland at 5Dimes
At 9-3, the Denver Broncos have already locked up the AFC West. However, they are currently tied with New England and Baltimore with the same record, and will be playing hard over the next month to try and secure a first-round bye. It shouldn’t get much easier than this Thursday night’s game against Oakland.
The Raiders have dropped five straight games both SU and ATS including three games at home. Over their last four games, the Raiders have been outscored 147 to 64. They haven’t even looked competitive in a game for over a month.
Denver is 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS over its last seven games, scoring 30 points in six of those seven games and allowing 18.5 PPG over that stretch. Oakland’s porous defense shouldn’t stop Denver from getting to 31, and the Raiders don’t look capable of getting to 21 these days.
Green Bay -7.0 vs. Detroit at Pinnacle
Trends should always be taken with a grain of salt as teams change from year to year, but the numbers in this series are remarkable. Green Bay is 13-1 SU and 10-4 ATS over its last 14 games against the Detroit Lions. At home, Green Bay has won an amazing 21 straight games against their division rival with a 14-5-2 ATS record over that stretch.
Why should this year be the year that this incredible streak comes to an end? The Packers are on a nice roll at 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS over their last seven games, and Detroit has lost four straight games and is 1-3 ATS over the losing streak, which includes three straight losses at home. Green Bay is in the heat of a close division race with Chicago; what motivation does Detroit have coming into this game at 4-8 SU?
Detroit isn’t likely to roll over against a hated rival, but at Lambeau the Packers should roll even if they face the Lions’ best effort this Sunday.
