After weeks of close and hard-fought games, nine of the 14 games on the schedule last week were won by double digits. Ironically, none of those double-digit wins came from double-digit favorites, including the San Francisco 49ers who played to the first tie in the NFL since 2008 with the St. Louis Rams. It was just another wild week in the NFL. Here are some of the top picks for Week 11.
New Orleans -4.5 at Oakland at 5Dimes
The Oakland Raiders defense has officially been exposed. After allowing 42 points to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers behind the legs of Doug Martin two weeks ago, the Raiders allowed 55 points to the Baltimore Ravens behind the arm of Joe Flacco last week. 97 points in two weeks is an astonishing figure to give up for any NFL team, and it doesn’t figure to get much easier for the defense with the New Orleans Saints coming to town this week.
The Saints of course have their share of issues on defense too, allowing 469 total yards of offense a game this season. But New Orleans has been going in the right direction of late with a 4-1 SU and ATS record over its last five games, and with Oakland’s starting and backup running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson both nursing high ankle sprains, the Raiders will have trouble keeping up with Drew Brees and the Saints’ relentless passing attack.
Baltimore -2.5 at Pittsburgh at Pinnacle
This is a rivalry known for tough, gritty games, and it feels strange picking the road team. But Baltimore has won each of the last two games between these two hated rivals, and they have a very clear advantage with Big Ben Roethlisberger sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Joe Flacco and Ray Rice have given Baltimore a solid punch on offense over the last few seasons, and the Ravens have managed scoring totals of 23, 35, and 24 in their last three games against Pittsburgh. With Big Ben out and Byron Leftwich in at quarterback, it is difficult to see Pittsburgh scoring much more than 10 to 13 points against Baltimore. It’ll likely end up a close game as usual, but even a 3-point win covers the spread here, and the Ravens should be able to manage at least that.
Other lines available this week (all at Bet365) include Miami +1.5 at Buffalo, Green Bay -3.5 at Detroit, Cleveland +7.5 at Dallas, Jacksonville +15 at Houston, Cincinnati -3 at Kansas City, NY Jets +3 at St. Louis, Arizona -10 at Atlanta, Tampa Bay -1.5 at Carolina, Philadelphia +3.5 at Washington, San Diego +7.5 at Denver, and Indianapolis +9 at New England.
