Each week we provide our NFL best bet of the week and an additional two to three picks that we believe offer some betting value. Last season our top play crushed the book with an incredible 15 point spread covers from 21 selections. Good for a 71.4 winning percent. While it will be difficult to improve on that record, we'll do our best to help our readers in their quest of a profitable football handicapping season.

NY Giants at Dallas Cowboys
Line: Dallas -3

Game Selection

New York was spurred by their defense in a 23-17 victory over Washington last week. Dallas was led by a career passing day by QB Tony Romo in a 34-21 win at Tampa Bay.

The Giants weren't able to run the ball as well as they would have liked against the Redskins but should have more success against the Cowboys. Dallas surrendered 174 yards on the ground to the Bucs, a team with a questionable passing game. Look for RBs Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw to get 35+ carries as NY's O-line is geared toward running the ball. OLB DeMarcus Ware was a terror last year against the Giants (4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles) and LT David Diehl will need help against him. QB Eli Manning had a good rapport with his young receivers against the Redskins and there will be plays to be made against this secondary.

Dallas got a career-high 353 yards passing by Romo last week and three scoring passes of 40+ yards. However, that was against a Tampa Bay defense with few credible starters and a very dubious secondary. Most of Dallas' big plays were courtesy of blown coverages. The Giants have a much better secondary and a pass rush that should apply consistent pressure on an O-line that, like New York, is better suited to run blocking. The Giants defense surrendered only one TD last week and was especially tough against the run. The secondary does have some health concerns but also has good depth, as shown last week. Dallas lacks a true No.1 receiver and CB Corey Webster should be able to stay with WR Roy Williams. New York has covered seven of their last 10 meetings with Dallas and has been tough on the road and vs. divisional opponents, save for a stretch at the end of last season. We think they will be able to run the ball on offense and be able to handle the Cowboys' passing game. This is the first regular-season game in the Cowboys $1 billion+ playpen and the crowd will be rocking. The Giants have proven to be road warriors in the past and we feel they are a real 'live' dog in this matchup.
